Description

EUROPEAN WHITE OAK (Quercus robur) is native to most of Europe including areas like France, Germany, Finland, Ukraine and Romania. Quercus is the Latin family name for all oaks robur means robust and refers to the strength of this species of wood.
This species of oak measures approximately 1360 on the Janka hardness rating which shows a wood’s relative hardness when compared to other types of wood.
European White Oak generally has a tighter grain, smaller growth rings, and a more uniform color than American White Oak (Quercus alba). It ranges in color from light brown to a rich, dark brown. Perhaps most commonly, it’s a warm honey color.

Lead Times
Standard products are approximately 3 – 4 week lead time.

Color Range
Wood is a natural product. Due to the unique, natural characteristics of each plank, no two pieces are alike. Although we design our samples to be the closest representation of the actual finished product.

Reactive Stains & Fuming
These tannin-reactive techniques create color by interacting with the naturally occurring compounds in the wood to change its color from within. These techniques increase the natural color variation and/or initiate color change that evolves over time.
With all reactive color processes, tannin and sugar differences between boards result in color differences, as well as the grain direction and grain structure.

Dye Lots/Reorder
Each floor is custom made to order. This customization means that for each floor we are tweaking to the exact customer specifications of wood and color. This also means that each floor is unique and its own dye lot.

Sap
European White Oak floors are not sap free. The fumed and smoked floors will have very minimal edge sap. The reactive stains will have slightly more. All of the products can be sorted for sap for an additional charge.

Euro Oak – Prime
Prime grade allows for occasional, very small knots and minimal sapwood.

Euro Oak Rustic
Rustic grade highlights the breadth of the wood’s natural character, including knots, lighter new growth sapwood, mineral streaks, and small cracks. All knots are filled.
